Do Something Big

Be a part of the solution to the challenges of fire, water supply, and habitat conversion facing our fragile local ecosystems.

Orchard conversions, seed farming, and oak woodland and wetland restoration all make a sizable and lasting impact on Ojai’s sensitive ecology. If you are interested in large-scale restoration projects on your property, please inquire about our land restoration services to restore your land.

This notion that we’re separate from nature is what’s killing us. We’re totally dependent on nature. We have to learn to live together because we need ecosystem services everywhere, not just in parks and preserves.

We understand every property is unique, which is why we begin each potential project with an initial site visit, to get a sense of your property, evaluate priorities, and discuss options for restoration. We also understand that landowners have a diversity of needs and constraints, which is why we offer three tiers of services.

What restoration can be

From vacant fields to struggling orchards, OVLC’s Private Lands Restoration transforms these spaces into habitats that support our local flora and fauna. This image shows an example of this transformation over time. Starting on the left, during the first year of the project, water is reduced in the orchard as native plants are installed and native plant recruitment is encouraged. As trees slowly die over the subsequent two to five, our native species rise to take their place. Shown on the right, after five to fifteen, the land begins to return to its natural state, serving as a refuge for native plants and wildlife and working to connect fragmented habitats. Restoration is the solution to the pressing issues we are facing today. The act of converting even small parcels of land creates hope for a more beautiful, more climate resilient, more biodiverse future.
