What to expect from your Garden Consultation

  • Depending on your project and where you are on your rewilding journey, the takeaways may vary slightly. Overall, after your consultation, you will receive a one-page write up, including a summary of the visit, highlighting goals, outlining next step, and presenting a planting palette.

  • Depending on the scale of your project, landscaping budgets can vary drastically. Here is some more information on what you can expect for different projects.

Hired labor, hardscaping, and irrigation installation will dramatically increase the price of your project. A general rule of thumb is to allocate 10% of your home’s value to landscaping (although this option may not be feasible for everyone). But, you can reduce costs by doing it yourself! If you are having erosion or flooding issues, especially if they are affecting structures, I recommend you work with an architect to ensure safety.

If you do it yourself, without hardscaping or irrigation changes, you can do it for the cost of the plants. This will cost a few hundred dollars, depending on the size of your space.

If you do it yourself and update your hardscaping, irrigation, or removing a considerable amount of plant material, you can expect it to cost closer to $2,000.

If you hire a designer and a crew with small changes to hardscaping and irrigation, prices will start around $10,000-$20,000.

If you are planning drastic changes (full irrigation installation, building walls, etc.) and are hiring a designer and crew, you can expect costs in the $100,000-$200,000 range, depending on the size of your property.

  • Wildfire is a concern in Ojai and often can feel overwhelming and scary. For much of the Ojai Valley, Zone 0 is recommended for fire safety.

Rewild Ojai recommends reaching out to the experts to get more specific information on regulations, risk, and requirements.

Though regulations are still changing, many homes in the valley may have specific regulations when it comes to landscaping.

Check out the Ventura Regional Firesafe Council to learn more about your wildfire risks. They provide free risk assessments here or check out this home hardening guide.

Identify your level of risk and the regulations that apply to your home.
