Native Flora Hike

Join Ojai Valley Land Conservancy's Martin Schenker, Restoration Field Manager, and Sophie McLean, Native Plant Specialist and Nursery Manager, for a native flora hike at the Ventura River Preserve.

On this field trip, Martin and Sophie will guide you through the preserve. Martin will talk about the geology of our valley, what the hills used to be and how they became mountains. Martin and Sophie will share their botanical knowledge about the native plants growing and thriving on these steep slopes, putting these plants in context with the story of their evolution, fire, and seasons.

Whether you are a plant lover, hiker, or just want to learn more about the natural history of the Ojai Valley, we hope you can join us!

This event involves a strenuous hike on a 4.5-mile loop around the Ventura River Preserve. Please bring your own backpack, water, snacks, sun protection, sturdy walking/hiking shoes, and hiking poles if desired. Sophie and Martin may modify the length of the loop depending on the group's pace.
