Volunteer Stewards

The Volunteer Stewards program gives volunteers the flexibility to help us improve the experience of visitors to OVLC preserves by caring for recreational resources like signs, fencing, waste stations, and more on their own time. In this program, individuals have the freedom to volunteer on their own schedule while taking on the responsibility of specific kinds of upkeep across various preserves. Additionally, the Volunteer Stewards program creates an avenue for volunteers to carry out their own projects for preserve maintenance and beautification.

Does that sounds like you?

Volunteer Stewards

The OVLC has always been sustained by our volunteers, both in the field and in the office. Without volunteers, our ability to maintain our preserves would not be possible. That’s why we love our volunteers, and it’s also why we are constantly thinking of new ways for people to engage in caring for our community’s natural areas. Providing more engagement opportunities was why we first thought of creating this Volunteer Stewards Program.

Anyone who is interested in volunteering can join and we’ll provide the training and tools that are required to be a Volunteer Steward. Volunteers are given access to an instructional handbook, tutorial videos, in-person training that will give them the freedom to train and volunteer on the schedule that works best for them.

We hope you will consider becoming a Volunteer Steward.

  • These can vary, but some examples include monitoring and cleaning trail and kiosk signs, removing graffiti and reporting on other vandalism discovered on the preserves, stocking doggy poop bag stations, scouting and documenting invasive species, or caring for a trailhead by replacing maps and staying on top of trash and recycling bins.

If you have another way to contribute to the upkeep of our preserves, please email Brendan Taylor at brendan@ovlc.org to become a Volunteer Steward and make it happen!
