2021 FISCAL YEAR* ANNUAL REPORT

* FY 2021: July 1, 2020 – June 30, 2021

June 30, 2021 marked the end of our first full fiscal year since we changed our fiscal year to start in July. OVLC also restructured our accounting and simplified our chart of accounts. As a result, the staff and board have a deeper understanding of the role that each program plays in OVLC’s financial condition. In particular, these changes provide comprehensive insights into the costs of stewarding the preserves, and help OVLC plan for new acquisitions and budget for preserve improvements.

The final fiscal year numbers are currently being prepared by the auditors. The final report will be posted at ovlc.org/financials when it is completed.

Until then, some highlights of our 2021 fiscal year (ending June 30, 2021) have been:

•OVLC kept its preserves open during the Covid-19 pandemic. Based on the many testimonials we received, it is clear that having the preserves as a place for solace in a crazy year was deeply appreciated by the community.

•OVLC engaged in mediation with Southern California Edison and, after lengthy discussions, agreed to a fair settlement for the damages incurred in the Thomas Fire. OVLC continues its recovery with an eye towards the long term stewardship of our preserves.

•The Rice Canyon Bridge on the Ventura River Preserve over the Casitas canal was completed after burning in the Thomas Fire.

•The Allan Jacobs bridge on the Ventura River Preserve was also completed (with the help of many volunteers!).

•OVLC received a grant from the State of California for $168,000 for the Besant Meadow Bridge project.

•The Green Valley Project launched with several partners to cultivate the conservation leaders of tomorrow by providing ecological restoration opportunities for high schoolers today.

•The Volunteer Adopter Program was launched, where volunteers have stepped into leadership positions to help OVLC maintain restoration sites and trails.

As our new fiscal year is already underway, we look forward to keeping you apprised of the great things we have planned this year including acquisitions, new staff positions, a nursery expansion, and new programs. Again, our audited financial statements will be posted in the coming weeks at ovlc.org/financials
