Native Plant and Geology Hike

Beneath your feet lies columns of history like pages in a book. Layers of sand and silt like text illustrate an ever evolving landscape. Creating the basis of our ecosystems, soils are composed in mosaics of features whose characters have been expressed for millions of years. In rhythmic harmony with the soil, plants swiftly arose from the textured ground and cultivated a biodiverse foundation for life.

Join OVLC's Sophie McLean (Native Plant Specialist and Nursery Manager) and Martin Schenker (Restoration Field Crew Manager) as they decipher the clues found within the earth and dive into the dynamics of life that have shaped our existence.

This event involves a moderate to strenuous hike on a five-mile loop around the Ventura River Preserve on varying terrain, including crossing the Ventura River with moderately steep banks. This means you will need to either rock hop or be prepared to remove your footwear and wade across. Please bring your own backpack, water, snacks, sun protection, sturdy walking/hiking shoes, and hiking poles if desired.
