WATERSHED: Exploring a New Water Ethic for a New West
On Saturday July 11 at 10 AM the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy will be screening the film WATERSHED. Executive produced and narrated by Robert Redford and Directed by award-winning filmmaker Mark Decena, WATERSHED tells the story of the threats to the once mighty Colorado River and offers solutions for the future of the American West.
As the most dammed, dibbed, and diverted river in the world struggles to support thirty million people and the peace-keeping agreement known as the Colorado River Compact reaches its limits, WATERSHED introduces hope.
Sweeping through seven US and two Mexican states, the Colorado River is a lifeline to expanding populations and booming urban centers that demand water for drinking, sanitation and energy generation. And with 70% of the rivers’ water supporting agriculture, the river runs dry before reaching its natural end at the Gulf of California. Unless action is taken, the river will continue its retreat- a potentially catastrophic scenario for the millions who depend on it.
The discussion after the film will be led by Lorraine Walter, Coordinator of the Ventura River Watershed Council. Ms. Walter will be joined by other experts in the field of local and regional water issues.
This All About Ojai event is free to members and students and $10 for non-members. Space is limited so reservations are required. RSVP to Marti Reid at 805-649-6852 or marti@ovlc.org.
