Rio Vista Preserve
The 53-acre Rio Vista Preserve is less than a half mile from the Confluence Preserve on the Ventura River. The preserve is three-quarters of a mile long and sits next to a bike path. The land was acquired in 2009 with a grant from the California Coastal Conservancy. There are plans to restore the property by removing invasive Arundo, so that live oaks, alluvial scrub and endangered Bell’s vireo can thrive. Larry Rose with OVLC’s Land Committee said the land is an important piece of the puzzle in protecting a free-flowing river and wildlife corridor.
