Eucalyptus grove
Happy Valley School gardener, Frank Noyes and local students planted a Eucalyptus grove in the 1950s. The non-native trees require more water than the wetlands can afford. Biodiversity has slowed because Eucalyptus leaves have toxic oils that prevent new plant growth. The Conservancy removed some of the old Eucalyptus trees and planted live oaks, sycamores and black cottonwood. This is an ongoing project that over time will restore the preserve’s natural habitat.
