National Trails Day: June 3, 2023

By on April 28, 2023 in Events

In celebration of American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day, OVLC is hosting a number of volunteer opportunities including good old trail maintenance, trail cleanup, and some trail restoration work too. Projects will run from 8:30 am – 12 pm and range from easily accessible and not physically demanding to requiring a nice hike in with some rigorous work.

Where: Ojai Meadows Preserve, OMP – Hwy 33 Entrance
Length: ~ 1 mile

Join OVLC Docents Kay Regester and Barb Rugo on Saturday, June 3 for a docent-led walk at the Ojai Meadows Preserve (OMP). This short walk will start at the OMP – Hwy 33 Entrance and participants will meet at the main kiosk/sign at the trailhead. We will meet at 8:30 am and plan to return to the departure point by 10:30 am. Kay and Barb will focus on bird identification and native plant appreciation, in addition to sharing some of the history and OVLC restoration efforts of this particular preserve.

This walk is appropriate for all ages, but we kindly request no dogs please. Please wear closed-toe shoes, boots and pants are recommended, and bring sun protection, water, and snacks. Space is extremely limited and we often have a waitlist for these hikes. If you receive a spot, we ask that you please attend, or if you are unable to make it, you contact us 48 hours in advance in order to offer your spot to someone else.

Volunteer Appreciation Pool Party

In the afternoon, we are hosting a Volunteer Appreciation Pool Party at our Ventura River Steelhead Preserve from 12:30-5:30 pm to recognize all of the hard work of our volunteers. Anyone who has volunteered with the OVLC in the past year, including new volunteers at National Trails Day, is invited to attend the party. We will provide cold drinks, delicious food, good music, and a mountain of gratitude. All you need to bring is a swim suit and a towel. We hope you can join us, and thank you again for contributing your time, energy, and skills to the OVLC!
