Local artist Rocio Mariposa combines her passions for hiking and painting with Ojai Landscapes, a collection of new paintings inspired by her explorations on the trails of the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy. Ojai Landscapes will be on view the entire month of October with the reception on October 20, 3 – 5pm at Ojai Coffee Roasting Co.
About the Artist
Rocio enjoys hiking and camping with her husband and finds California’s majestic landscapes and native species one of her greatest sources of inspiration. She begins her landscapes and plant studies in the field, sketching in watercolor pencil and then paints a few layers with watercolor. Later in the studio, she adds details and line work with watercolor and gouache. The slow process of layering washes of soft color blends and vibrant texture gives her paintings a storybook quality that is based in careful observation of the physical world with an added dose of imagination.
