California Naturalist Certification
Spring Class Registration is closed
The Ojai Valley Land Conservancy is excited to announce that in partnership with University of California Cooperative Extension we will be offering the California Naturalist Certification Training this Spring.
The California Naturalist training is an innovative program developed by the University of California Cooperative Extension to foster a committed corps of volunteer naturalists and citizen scientists trained and ready to take an active role in local natural resource conservation, education, and restoration. The California Naturalist program provides an overview of California’s diverse ecology, as well as a more in-depth study of the ecology of the Ventura River Watershed.
This six week course is a combination of classroom work and field training. Evening classes will be held on Fridays from 6-8:30 pm at the OVLC office. Field training will be held on Saturdays at a variety of locations in the watershed including a number of our nature preserves.
The course will begin with orientation on Friday March 4 and a field trip on Saturday March 5, 2016 and will continue on subsequent Fridays and Saturdays March 11 & 12, March 25 & 26, April 1 & 2, April 8 & 9 and April 15. A full course outline and syllabus will be available in late January.
Our Lead Instructor is Don Rodriguez, Department Chair of Environmental Science and Resource Management at Cal State Channel Islands. He will be joined by OVLC Staff and various expert lecturers.
The cost for the course is $375.oo if registered by February 1st 2016 and includes the course textbook, The California Naturalist Handbook. After February 1st the registration will be $425.00. 4 units of lower division college credit from UC extension are available for an additional $80 upon completion of program requirements.
