The Ojai Valley Land Conservancy (OVLC)’s popular 1% for Ojai program that funds the care of local, publicly accessible, open spaces is now the “Wild About Ojai” program.
The name change reflects an effort to tie the program more firmly to the “Wild” lands that are cared for with program proceeds while recognizing how “Wild” our community is about the conservation and care for these vital community resources. All other aspects of the program will remain as they have always been, and proceeds will continue to directly improve how the OVLC’s community open spaces are managed and maintained.
“We chose Wild About Ojai as a way to link the program more closely to the wild lands we protect on behalf of the communities of the Ojai Valley. It also gives us the chance to have a little fun with the name and incorporate a logo that really stands apart in the community and links the program more closely with the Land Conservancy.”
– Brian Stark, OVLC Executive Director.
Since the program began, it has raised over $43,000 to care for local open spaces. Funds have been used to complete needed trail repairs, refurbish the Forest Service’s Pratt Trailhead, update signage on the Gridley Trail, construct an all-weather trail to the pond at the Ojai Meadows Preserve, and is currently being used to refurbish the Riverview Trailhead on Rice Rd. A project is also planned to construct a new bridge on the Ojai Meadows Preserve that will unite the portions of the preserve on both sides of the Happy Valley storm drain. The OVLC is grateful for our business partners in the program and we invite the community to participate by visiting our participating businesses.
In addition to updating the Wild About Ojai program, the OVLC is also launching a new organizational logo that also makes a connection with the land for which we care. Some similarity with the Wild About Ojai logo also ties the program more closely to the OVLC. We are excited about our new look and thank the community for all your support for our local conservation efforts.
